Friday Favorites (and where has all of WEF gone!?)

Happy Friday!! I can’t believe that it’s already WEEK EIGHT of the 12 week Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) season, and in just about a month I’ll already be heading back up north for the summer! Less surprising than the fact that the season has absolutely flown by is the fact that this is my first ‘Friday Favorites’ post of the winter and that I’ve barely blogged at all…but alas, without further ado, here are just three of my favorite things of recent! (Also, does anyone ever actually say “alas” in conversation? Weird word choice. Sorry.)

1. Weekend visitors! – A few weeks ago, two of my good friends, Diana and Courtlyn, came down to visit for a long weekend, and I always absolutely love seeing them! Then just this past weekend, my boyfriend, Justin, came down for his second Wellington visit. I really can’t and shouldn’t leave during our busy season here in Florida, so I’m so grateful that he’s been able to come down at least once a month, and it’s definitely been great getting to have him here and share some of my favorite things about Wellington with him. (Mostly including endless amounts of horse things…sorry Justin!) I’ll be sharing a few more photos from his visit soon I’m sure!

Brie! (I owe this girl a spa day one of these days soon to get her cleaned up and looking good for potential adopters!)

2. Riding when and where I can – I’m extremely fortunate that I get to work around horses and from WEF almost every day! But it of course also always makes me wish I could ride and show more too! Currently though, time and budget constraints leave me riding just whatever and whenever I can. Most recently, thanks to my friend Ann, that’s included riding at the Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue. My ‘project’ for the winter season is an awesome mare named Finally Unbridled (you can read about her at the aforementioned link), but I’ve dubbed her “Brie.” (Short for unBRIdled, but also with an e because I love cheese.)

She had some shoeing issues (i.e. she was without one of her front shoes for about a month), so I’ve just finally started her back over some cross-rails, and she’s a blast! I can’t wait to start raising the jumps up this week! Anyone interested in a great, speedy jumper prospect I definitely recommend her! (She already has auto-changes and everything!)

3. Equine Career Network – A few weeks ago, one of my Penn State riding teammates, Kaitlyn Zaleski, asked me to share more about my job for her awesome new website, EquineCareerNetwork.com. I always feel a bit oddly talking about myself or sharing things about myself, so I held off on sharing the article…but I love everything that they’re doing with Equine Career Network, so you can check out both my article and the website itself here! It’s a great resource for anyone looking to work within the equestrian industry, so for sure recommend it for anyone looking for jobs or to learn what else may be out there as far as equestrian career options.

It’s a busy Nations’ Cup weekend here at WEF, so that’s all for now! More to come soon! 🙂
